The Zen of Test Automation

Date: September 6, 2022

Time: 1:00-2:00PM CT

Presented by Jamie Mitchell

"I had the dubious honor of becoming an automator at a time when tools were primitive, automation was coveted but rarely supported sufficiently with resources, and the failure rate was akin to watching the Detroit Lions play football.  This gave me the chance to learn almost every way to fail at automation.

Hence it continually surprises me to see how many automation programs still fail by using the same poor techniques we rejected a decade ago.

A useful definition of Zen:
A state of calm attentiveness in which one's actions are guided by intuition rather than by conscious effort Perhaps that is the zen of gardening—you become one with the plants, lost in the rhythm of the tasks at hand.

This presentation will advance a set of automation principles that I learned the hard way over the years.  When these principles are utilized, the likelihood of success is greatly enhanced."
